Neanderthals are not our ancestors 7-11-97 University Park, Pa. -- A squad of U.S. and German researchers has extracted mitochondrial deoxyribonucleic stinging from Neandertal bone showing that the Neandertal DNA term falls outside the normal variation of modern humans. These results hold that Neandertals did not contribute mitochondrial DNA to modern humans, says Dr. Mark Stoneking, call back professor of anthropology at Penn State.
